Probably just need different firmware flashed if the Atari is 68000 based is vampire 500 v2 might be able to be utilised

Hmmm, I like the idea Atari ST/TT/Falcon even Macs68k could be revamped,
but note that team hasnt ever made any statements towards it.

Best I can say is any V2 or V4 can run FreeMINT and few apps.

I wonder if a replacement motherboard would make more sense as an option for the ST line? When the ST started to be discussed as a possible Apollo-Core machine I had a look at machines (I've never owned and hardly ever seen any ST's in real life). I found that there was a lot of different board layouts with the 68000 moving all around and often (always?) soldered directly to the board. This would make designing and installing a one size fits all accelerator very tricky. If the components other than the motherboard are more consistent across the line (Case, Floppy, PSU, keyboard/mouse) and given that the hardware on the motherboard was mainly off the shelf stuff as I understand it, a replacement the motherboard would be an obvious solution. Once the current Vampire boards are upgraded for legacy Amiga graphics and audio over HDMI the old motherboards wont be doing much either. The tricky bit is finding somebody willing and able to design a new FPGA motherboard and persuading the team to licence the Apollo-Core and include an ST SoC in it given how busy they already are.

This is actually easier than you think. Most of the work is already done on the MiST FPGA clone.
